Court remands PDP chieftain, INEC officer in prison over alleged kidnapping

THE Magistrate Court in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government Area of Edo State has remanded one Alhaji Nakowa Suleiman, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Mr Effong Akpan, an Electoral Officer attached to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), to Auchi prison for alleged abduction of two Youth Corpers during the recent Voters Registration Exercise.
The duo were alleged to have abducted two Youth Corps members Matthew Omaji and Grace Adah, Confiscated the registration machine to the residence of the PDP leader where the Corpers were coerced to register people illegally.
The three count charge against the defendants read: “ that on the 25th of June, 2016, at Ofukpo, in the Fugar Magistrate District did abduct one Mathew Omaji and compelled him against his will to carry out unlawful activities and thereby committed an offence contrary to section 1 and punishable under section 3 (2) of the Edo state kidnapping prohibition law 2009 as amended in 2013.
