The journey so far on election results
Nigeria‘s main opposition on Tuesday claimed victory in
the country’s tense general election, as its candidate,
former military ruler Muhammadu Buhari pulled ahead
of President Goodluck Jonathan.
Asked if the All Progressives Congress (APC) was claiming
victory over Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP),
spokesman Lai Mohammed told AFP: “Yes.
“This is the first time the opposition has voted a
government out of power in Nigeria‘s history,” he added.
Muhammadu Buhari pulled ahead in Nigeria‘s tense
general election on Tuesday, stretching his lead against
President Goodluck Jonathan with eight results to come
in.
Declarations from 28 states plus the Federal Capital
Territory of Abuja put Buhari’s lead over Jonathan at just
over 1.5 million votes, with the remaining states in his
northern heartland.
Buhari’s All Progressives Congress (APC) had 16 states
while Jonathan’s Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) was on
12 plus the Federal Capital Territory.
